Lux Vault was one of the last areas I reworked before we moved on from actively updating Spellbreak. As such, looking back at it is a little bittersweet for me. I really did have a lot of fun building these places.
Narratively, this was meant to be the most secure, tightly guarded vault in the kingdom, full of riches mined from the desert around it. With a relatively small footprint to build on and a limited modular kit to use, I decided the best way to convey that idea was to build a very imposing aboveground entrance and leave what was contained beneath to the players’ imagination. My hope is that the high, concentric rings of walls make this POI stick out as especially fortified in a map full of castles and forts. I also think it makes for a cool sight from above, which is key given that players start a match of Spellbreak by appearing from portals high above the map and diving in. It’s always nice to have the “ooh, what’s that?” factor from a distance.
